DaShaun and Dominique's Question

Which character in your book is your favorite, and what do you like about them? What can you learn from their experiences?

  1. Ms. Tolson was my favorite character in the book. I love how she showed her care for the students. She didn't act brand new, she basically showed her true character in the book, and I could tell when I saw the film. She actually had a relationship with her students, when it came down to being there and making sure they were safe, and believing in them.

  2. i am reading "Our America", and my favorite cahracter is LeAlan. I like LeAlan because me him both were raised up without a father. Me and him really don't have any feelings towards our father. LeAlan's mother asked him what he would do if he saw his father. LeAlan said somehitng that sounded like something I would say which was "I would do nothing if I saw him, it'll be like looking a some other guy to me". That is something I really have said when a relative asked me the same question. I know that I am grown but I feel that LeAlan has taught me to not be so stuck on not having a father. For many years I would cry and wonder what did I do to make this man not want to know me, I would blame myself and tell myself someway, somehow Dominique you are responsible but LeAlan showed me that it happens in our america, he showed me that you shouldn't stop living just because some man doesn't want to take the responsiblity of his child, life goes on and is to short to be stuck in a days or wondering this and that, LeAlan helped me to move on and to strive for excellence, I came this far with what I have and who I know so the same way i got here I believe will take me there. There, is that great film- maker that I dream to become, there is that great beautiful house that I dream of, there is that father and husband to a pretty woman and smart kids that I plan to be. There I'm done.

  3. In the book Stranger than fiction, a character that I became intersted in,was actually the character in Demolition that decribed everything about the mower derby. He was very serious about what he was doing even though it was just for fun. He made a valid point that everyone has a side of them that most people would never think they would have. His story taught me that poeple tend to put on acts in society. He stated that most of the people that were in the derby were men that had ordinary jobs, and just wanted to realease stress that they had built up by smashing into things. I think it is important to always be yourself in whatever the situation may be, but it is also neccasary to have the skills to adapt to the situation.

  4. LeAlan is my favorite character. He talks more then Llyod and seems to know more about his neighborhood. He knows his neighbors and surrounding and gives the audience a very well descriptive environment. LeAlan really seems into his documentary and gives alot of effort to record as many interviews with people. LeAlans attitude shows that he enjoys his documentary and giving all he has to make this documentary one of the best.
I guess i can learn from LeAlan is to document my neighborhood. It doesn't sound easy, but with LeAlan in Ida B. Wells theres alot of violence and crime happening. So comparing it to Gage Park, its sometimes rare and peaceful. I can also learn from LeAlan is to avoid violence and stay out of trouble. LeAlan seems to be doing that pretty well in his environment. Maybe i can too.

  6. My Favorite Character Is Marylin Manson. Even though his ideology on life is a little off of the norm, he still is able to understand the world as it is. He hasn't fallen into a narcissistic mind set though all of his fame and fortune. He still is a normal person, and a normal American, nothing more. Him being aware of this is something that i can respect and pull inspiration from. "always keep a head held humble,"is a Chinese saying that really means something to me, and i can apply it to his situation. As weird as it is to say, i can find a lot of inspiration in this self out casting man. I also like him because in "Stranger Than Fiction" he mentions doing work in film with my favorite director Alejandro Jordonoskey.

  7. In my book (Persepolis) i have two favorite characters that i really admire but i have to choose just one and its (Marji) the main character of the book. I like her because she kinda reminds me of me and she no one really understands her views of the world and in her school. She has many different emotions throughout this entire book and not one them really makes a difference. I like also like her becasue she nevered stopped believeing in her Mother & Father for standing up for what they believed in. They were politcal communist of the Iran Revolution and they were examples to marji but they didnt always set positive examples for her but marji got the picture. What i can say that i learned from (Marji) is that i will never stop believing in myself if i want the truth of a situation to be heard for people to know. Although it may be times and challenges that that i may feel powerless and not heard and even not encouraged i will continue to stay strong and dedicated to my myself and for others. And lastly my second person that i liked was marji's dad because he was so intelligent and calm about most of every situation in the book. When there was either an attack or explosion he would jump out of instinct like any other person would but he would be so calm about it and talk in a low but smooth mellow tone. Throughout the story he was marji's guidence and sense of direction to somethings about the war and he clerified up some topics about how it may end. What i can say i learned from him is how to be calm and relaxed. He was in the middle of a war and remained calm and relaxed and if he can with stand that kind of construction with calm and ease so can I.

  8. In the text Persepolis normaly the favorite character would be the young child the main character but mine is actually the mother.Because she has had it alot harder to me. She had to change her appearance by dying her hair and wearing shades, She has also had to deal with her own father going to prison. Then having to deal with the worry and safety for her own family with a young daughter whose growning up in trouble times and wanting to become part of a revolution and a eldery mother, and with the worry of her husband return. She also has been forced to wear a veil after so many years and if not she was told she should basically be raped. What I have learned from her experiences was that you can never really expected what is going to happen to be continued......

  9. The book that I am reading is stranger than fiction. Its really hard to choose just one character because the author changes the story every chapter so there is never just one consistent character to be developed and made complex. If I had to choose I would say the people from the wrestling chapter were my favorite. There were a lot of people mentioned in that chapter so I can't just choose one, but all of the men shared the same beleifs. Those beleifs were that wrestling was like a family to them. They all wanted to wrestle because they liked the pain and being able to take out thier frustrations in a wrestling match. The conditions that they had to train under were ridiculous and they knew that they could really get hurt by wrestling. Despite all of this they continued to wrestle. The reason I these men were my favorite characters is because they all have pride which is something not a lot of people have. They were proud that they participated in such a hard sport and even though they didn't get any recognition for they still kept going. Its almost sad because wrestling isnt a popular sport because its so violent and bloody. That still doesnt stop these men from doing it. They have the drive and the will power that I wish I could have as much as they did. They really inspired me.

  11. I relate to Palahnuk in the story My Life as a Dog. In the story he dresses up as a dog for a day. He gets yelled at, made fun of, and people through stones at him. At the end of the story a man dressed up as a toy soldier in FAO Schwarz said that he totally rules. I get made fun of back at home for he clothes that I wear. Then one of my friends now always wants me to go shopping with him because he likes that I can be my own person.
