Fred and Kyesha's Question

How has reading this book changed the way you think? Do you think you'll be better at explaining your life to other people because of the book you've read?

  1. Reading (Persepolis) has completely changed the way i viewed this book because i'll admit at first i was skeptical about if its going to be interesting because the cover of the booked looked blah!!! But as people say or as the saying goes (Never Judge a Book By Its Cover)I am a witness to that. This book was very interesting and exciting because all the situations that happened are based on true events so thats even more incredible to me personally. I think i would be more (Confident) if i was to explain my life to people or someone about certain tribulations or unusal experiences that i might have had. Reading this book gave me confidence and showed me that i have a life that other people may want to hear about and also they may be able to relate to my issues which makes me feel like i know them kinda in a weird way....

  2. It hasn't changed my ways of thinking because everything that loyd and Lealan have experieced i feel that i've been through similar issues. Nothing is new to me in the story. I see what they see when they talk about, i know how fast they run from gangs. I have the same experiences before when i was young. This book just another story dealling with the same issue like other neighrhoods in society.

  3. Well my views of people will definitely be different. I will look more into the situation than to judge about what they are doing. I have read a lot of stories that were very interesting, but I realized that there are more to these people than just the stories that are being told. I don't think that I will be better at describing my life. I have become a more descriptive writer because of the book. He does a good job of describing people and situations, and I have been tryign my best to incorporate that into my writing.

  4. Reading this book is a revelation in the works. I know that i will benefit from reading this book, because it forces me into areas of thought that i would never have come about. "Stranger Than Fiction" exploits things that don't happen to every day people. It is teaching me to broaden my horizons in the areas of thought and actions.

  6. I am reading stanger than fiction and it has really made me think.I am the same way i either want to be alone or i try to be something that i am not.Palahniuk was telling these stroys a bout these people who do crazy things to have peole notice them.I feel that no one show do or act out things to have someone just look at them to me i feel that i can just be myself and people wil like me for me. This book has made tell peole how i feel and not back down from anything and everything. This book has made me see that everyone is different that no one is the same i use to think everyone was the same in some kind of way and they are not. everyone has there own story.

  7. Reading this book has changed my thoughts on how others think. I know now that people judge, only because they don't really understand. Therefore, it is my responsibility to explain to people what I know. I lived in the Englewood Area since I was 2 Years old. I know what I know because I stayed there. Some people don't understand my life. I don't have to get angry anymore, now that I know how important it is to show them.

  8. Reading this book has deffinately changed the way I think about everything. I now realize that there is so much more than what I see, there is so much more thatn the calm, neat, and safe neighborhood that I live in. I really didn' t know exactly what went on in the ghetto, I also didn't think that there were positive people there, I thought that they were people who just wanted to be there. this book taught me that there were people there who had to be there only because that is where their everything is, which includes family, home, and they were raised up there. There are some positive individuals in the ghetto who dream and plan to get out of it. There are people in the ghetto who will become positive person. I don't think that I can explain my life to other people now because I'm so used to being spoiled and laying my head down when I want cause i know it will be safe, and eating whenever and whatever I want. But now it's like how can I dare think about me looking at how blessed I am when there are kids who are beeing shot and killed. There little kids who cant go outside and play because where they stay. There are children who can't really sleep at night because all the shooting. How can I dare easily tell someonw about the blessed life that i live thinking about the suffering children that struggle in the ghetto day to day.

  9. Reading Stranger Than Fiction has made me think of more interesting ways of expressing myself through my writing. The author has a way of writing is thought in the same manner that he would explain to someone he is talking to face to face. Explaining stories in great detail gives readers a sense of connection between themselves and the author.

  11. The book that I am reading is Stranger than fiction and it has definatly made me change the way I think. The book really shows how humans act in certain situations. I've read about people who participate in strange events and people who are trying to make it to success, but never do. There are a lot of directions the author takes with the characters, but it certainly has an impact on my view of the world. Honestly reading this book has made me realize that humans can be very weak. It amazes me the extent people will go to so they can fit in, or be successful or just let out stress. Of course all of us do these things but the people mentioned in the book have such extreme situations that I feel are what make them less strong. For example, one chapter of the book talked about how the author and his friend dressed up in a dog and bear costume. They walked around town and people literally flipped out. The author described how the police were monitoring them because of thier costumes. They were thrown out of a museum. A group of teen boys beat them up and threw rocks at them. All of this stuff happened and for what? Its sad how when there is something out of the ordinary placed in society people freak out. To me that shows weakness. The fact that our society cannot handle change is sad. Or the fact that we cannot accept something that is different. I mean I know if I saw some dude in a dog costume I would think its weird too, but I wouldn't call him names or beat him up. Its his choice, so let it be.
